![]() ![]() And sometimes it's really hard to get there. And the emotion kind of just came, which is not always the case. I didn't have to do too much work to get there. I remember saying to the director, 'Are you going to shoot the wide first or the close up?' and she's like, 'We'll do the wide, we'll do this, we'll give you lots of time to get there.' And I was like, 'Actually, can we do it the other way around? Because I just feel like I'm going to be able to get there right away, and I don't want to dry out by the time we get to the close up.' And this is kind of cheesy, maybe actor speak, but I just felt like the Muse sort of tapped me on the shoulder that day. And I remember on the day that we were shooting, saying to the director, because I knew I would have to cry and stuff like that. ![]() And I really liked him, and he's a fantastic, talented actor. I don't know that I had a kind of premeditated approach to that. Jace stabbed Tarik, who lived just long enough to die in Grace's arms. When Jace showed up, racing the clock to try and kill Cal before he drowned from the inside, he got to Tarik before Tarik could get to the rifle he was looking for to protect Grace, Cal, and poor little Eden, who was getting quite a ride during the races back and forth to the root cellar. Tarik's death was heartbreaking for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that the only reason Grace and Cal's location went public was that Tarik was so excited about potentially starting a restaurant with her that his chatter got a little bit too loud in a bar. Before the end of the episode, Tarik was killed while trying to protect Grace and her family, and actress Athena Karkanis spoke with CinemaBlend about the big emotional blow to the Stone family. and the police scanner that put them back on the grid. ![]() Despite the fact that Grace and Cal had spent multiple episodes lying low with her stepbrother Tarik, everything fell apart when their whereabouts hit the web. Manifest went big to bring the major storylines of Season 3 together with a two-parter that delivered some tragedies, some injuries, some reveals, and one big death among the heroes that is going to have a lasting impact on Grace Stone. ![]()

![]() ![]() The unique Bitburger goblet released in 1964.Ĭompared to the original Czech Premium Pale Lager, a German Pilsner is much more attenuated resulting in a crisper, drier beer (for comparison sake our Czech Premium Pale Lager finishes at 1.014 while this German Pilsner finishes at 1.009). It's interesting to note that 50 years later, the Spiegelau IPA Glass designed by Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada picked up some of the traits which help boost hop aromas. In 1964 they release a nicely-proportioned goblet on a hexagonal stem to emphasize the character and uniqueness of Bitburger Pils. The largest volumes go to Italy, the United States and the Netherlands.īitburger also gets into the history books as the first brewery to create an exclusive glass for a beer brand. Today, Bitburger Pils has become one of the best-selling German brands, with exports to over 70 countries around the world. ![]() Their flagship product became Bitburger Premium Pils, a bright, fresh golden colour German Pilsner style beer with a rich frothy head, and the unmistakable hop bitterness of gentle noble German hops. One of the first imitators was Germany's Bitburger brewery, founded in 1817 by Johann Wallenborn. This was the time in Europe when the emerging railway network made the transportation of beer possible to just about any major city. ![]() they had to, because it started to eat into their own sales. Breweries across the border in Germany, began also to be interested in the Czech phenomenon. The blonde lager of Pilsen that we today call Czech Premium Pale Lager (or Bohemian Pilsner prior to BJCP 2015) was an instant success when it was first released, not only on its home turf but also in the most elegant cafes and bistros of Europe. It's similar, but still different enough to garner its own style name. This recipe's for an offshoot called German Pilsner. That original style is now called Czech Premium Pale Lager. They all originate and are modeled largely after a beer style invented in 1842 in the Czech city of Pilsen (from where it took the name). Some statistics report that 90% of beers drunk in the world today are made according to the Pilsner style or a style directly derived from it.Īll styles of Pilsner are very light in colour, brilliantly clear, moderately effervescent, and are often strongly hopped with an assertive up-front bitterness bite. Pilsner (also called Pilsener or simply Pils) is the world's first blonde lager, and is therefore arguably the most successful beer style in the world. Planning to enter it into competition." - hoptimal_solutions The first time I brewed it, I did a blind comparison to Bitburger and it was hard to tell the difference. "Your recipes and the background information going with them are always awesome, thanks! I brewed you German Pils a couple of months back and it is my favourite beer I have brewed so far." - Bennet.stofberg Now I am sure I will make another batch." - sandovalch "3 months after I opened the second keg and the taste is absolutely wonderful. ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() I’ll add, you didn’t ask, but I’ll add, while my expertise is astrophysics, there’s science in it that’s not my expertise. These are all good people doing the right things in exactly the right places. Plus, he actually has a Hugo award for one of the science-fiction stories that he told for Star Talk, so he’s also a storyteller. The original Cosmos didn’t have commercials because it was on PBS. ![]() He knows how to arc stories to fit between commercials. For 2020, we have Brannon Braga who is one of the long-time writers, producers, and directors of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Steve Soder reprised his co-authorship in 2014. Her co-writer in 1980 was, of course, Carl Sagan, but also a guy named Steve Soder. How did these episodes come together this time? Was it any different than the last time with the way you worked with Ann?Īnn is the secret sauce of all three Cosmos: 1980, 2014, 2020. There’s the world of the mind, there’s the quantum, there’s the mycelium that’s a network of roots that communicates electrochemically between and among plant species… You combine the power of all of this, we are showing you not only worlds such as exoplanets, that’s the first and obvious interpretation of possible worlds from the subtitle, but also worlds within us. We brought them on to lend their … Not lend, of course they were compensated, but to give of their talents. ![]() We’re talking about all the people who typically make high-budget cinema. I think if you watch enough of the episodes, I think you’ll agree. That sounds cliche because everybody always says that about their most recent project. In fact, personally, I think it’s the best in every way. This is the most hopeful of the three Cosmos. We need some hope given our current circumstances. What was the goal of this new series? Obviously this time it’s about possible other worlds, but what else? ![]() Otherwise, we’re stuck compartmentalizing knowledge that nature does not. This goes on and on and on, and we have to be nimble as we move across those fields. We have biology thriving inside of rocks with chemical environments. One of the DNA strands of Cosmos is how seamlessly it blends the brands of science that we otherwise think of as separate and distinct entities taking at different times of the day with different textbooks in different professors. Before we get started, when I was in New York, I used to go in the mid-2000s to the Hayden Planetarium to see the awesome “Frontiers” lectures you hosted. Thank you so much for doing the interview with ExtremeTech. Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist and host of the new show, spoke with us about Cosmos and the need for an understanding of science. The show also tells poignant stories about the advances and setbacks scientists have faced throughout human history. But then it quickly branches off into all-new material, including the latest discoveries of planets orbiting other stars and the wonders we might find one day if we ever made it to one. It covers the beginnings of the universe and life on Earth, with a brief refresher of the cosmic calendar that condenses all of this into one “year,” as seen in 2014’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. The new 13-episode television series was created by Ann Druyan, who also co-created the original Cosmos with her late husband Carl Sagan. Cosmos: Possible Worlds debuts March 9th on National Geographic. ![]() |
